Goofed something up...

I've got the latest version of Lion and the update today from mail tags. Everything was fine.

I then got sick of all the duplicate messages I was seeing in Mail app from my gmail account and decided I wanted to clean that up.

I went to the gmail settings and turned off show important in imap. By accident I also turned off show all mail too (but then turned it back on)

Now none of the tags are showing anywhere but my smart folders still appear to be acting correctly although they don't show tags.

Wondering what to do?

    Hi Tim

Hopefully we can do something here but it may be that we need to revert to a back up -- do you have time machine or another backup.

One of the limitations of using MailTags with gmail is that MailTags cannot write its tags to the gmail server (gmail doesn't implement IMAP like other imap servers and this action cannot performed by MailTags)

MailTags saves its tags locally in the cache message files.

However, if you turned off showing all Mail in gmail imap settings, Mail would probably think the messages have been deleted from gmail and so delete all the cached messages on your computer to keep it in sync. -- thereby deleting all the data inside those cache messages. Turning the option back on would just download the messages from gmail but these messages would not have their tag data.

There may be some possibility to restoring this -- but it may be slim and the best bet would be to revert to a back up

Thanks Scott - I restored my mail directory and got everything back.

Looks like the later version is working ok for me modulo the smart folder reorder thing.
